Court thwarts Pastor Ploy

Pastor Jayakumar of Kallukotam, Kanyakumari Dist, Tamilnadu used the mike - amplifier method of evangelism in the village of Lakshmipuram. Villagers protested. Pastor Jayakumar complained to the District Collector. But the Collector ordered that a residential place cannot be converted into a Church. Pastor Jayakumar went to the Madras High court appealing against the Collectors' order. Dr Hedgewar as viewed by village lads

A group of Youngsters who have studied only up to 5th std., had a vibrant thought to do some service to the nation. These daily wage workers of Paraiyur village, Palacode, Dharmapuri District, Tamilnadu built a Gandhi mantap. 43 youngsters of the village formed a group by name Gandhi Youth Seva Mandram in 2001. Various service activities like distributing free books, uniforms etc. were the routine work done by them. Out of their meagre income, they saved 4 lakhs rupees to construct this Gandhi mantap. Four pillars of the mantap carry the picture of great leaders namely Netaji, V.O Chidambaranar, Bagat Singh and Dr. Hedgewar. Tamilselvan, the Secretary of the Mandram informed: "This mantap is constructed to guide the next generation on a good path, eradicate bad deeds, encourage sewa activity and desa bhakthi”.

Hindu Outfits at the centre-stage

Hindu outfits gradually take to centre stage these days. Recently fishermen community people of Aranthaangi town, Pudukottai District, Tamilnadu staged a dharna for the third time before the RTO Office. Villages from Kattumaavadi to muthukudavarai – adjacent to the town were one of the worst affected areas during 2004 Tsunami. Work of construction of new houses to the affected people was started under Rajiv Gandhi Rehabilitation Package for Tsunami affected areas. The work is very slow. Agitated fishermen from the nearby villages protested against this setback. Hindu Munnani also participated in the dharna. Peace talk discussion took place between office bearers of Hindu Munnani including District Secretary Ramamurthy, and others like Srinivasan, Shanmugam, Kandaswamy and Ramesh on the one side and Government Officials – RDO Leelavathi, Tsunami Rehabilitation Incharge and Police Officials on the other side. Sensing the stern warning by the public, Government Officials agreed and committed to finish the construction of houses before 31st August, 2012 and hand over the same to the affected persons. Taking such commitment from the Government Officials, locals dispersed.

  1. It gives me solace that Hindu outfits have started taking active role in highlighting socio economic problems of the people. They should also lead the people in fighting the ills of all types in the present day socio political situations.
A day should dawn when people confidently say, "Our Hindu orgs will take care of us."

  2. This refers to Madras High Court's dismissal of Kanyakumari pastor's appeal against the Collector's Order to stop evangelical activities through amplifiers from homes in residential localities. This kind of highhandedness is going on in many rural and urban areas now-a-days, with full throated sermonising that amounts to noise pollution. Kindly arrange to provide the judgement copy of the Madras High Court along with the case no and date, as local authorities especially the police do not entertain complaints in this regard.
